Surprising Tip to Make Your Holidays Less Stressful

Writer's picture: Amanda HermansAmanda Hermans

A few years back I did something radical. In an effort to make the holiday season less stressful, I opted out of mailing Christmas cards. However, I still wanted to share with family and friends how much I appreciate and love them. So, instead of Christmas cards, I sent cards to celebrate Easter. But it turns out that Easter is so far away from Christmas that I felt a bit of a disconnect during the holiday season.

The following year I sent out Thanksgiving cards and that seemed to be the perfect blend of holiday festiveness, while preserving the Christmas season peacefulness that we try to instill in our home. Thanksgiving is also the perfect time to send a card to share with loved ones how thankful you are to have them in your life, along with all of the blessings you received over the past year, and reminding us of the reason for the season of Christmas right around the corner.

Today, I am going to share with you a Thanksgiving card calligraphy medallion wreath that you can use to jump start your holiday celebrations and hopefully let up on some of the stress of Christmastime.

Download the free template below and transfer it in pencil to a blank card (for a tutorial on how to transfer an image see my post featuring a Mother's Day Card). Then, go over the lines with your choice of ink. I chose metallic gold to reflect the golden color of fall fields and tree leaves. Another option would be to transfer image to blank watercolor cards and use black ink with watercolor accents on the autumn leaves, berries and sheaves of wheat.

On the inside you can add a special note of thanks or a holiday greeting. I like inserting a family photo. You can do this by making two corner slits opposite of one another on the inside of the card, using a self-healing mat and an exacto knife. A 4x6 piece of card stock with two corners cut out can act as a template. Then tuck the corner of the photo into the slits.

This design is great as a thank you card to send any time of the year, not just Thanksgiving. It also makes for a nice gift to frame and share for the holidays. I hope this quick design saves you time and adds to your peace this season!
