Mother’s Day is this Sunday and I have a quick card tutorial for you. A few supplies and a little bit of time will be all you need to make the perfect card for the special mom in your life! If you are short on time, be sure to download the free template at the end of this post to speed up the drawing portion of this tutorial.
Supplies:
• Pre-made card and envelope (or make your own out of card stock)
• Pencil and eraser
• Painter’s tape or ruler to mark off area
• Waterproof felt tip pen (I used Micron .005 and .03 tips)
• Watercolor palette
• Detail paint brush (I used a number 0 round)
• Jar of water
• Paper towel
• Calligraphy pen and nib
First, mark off the middle section of your card with either painter’s tape or with a ruler and light pencil.
Next, with a pencil, lightly draw flowers, leaves, etc. above and below the middle section. If you prefer a short cut, print out the free download at the end of this post and trace it onto the card. A light table is a great tool for this, otherwise a bright window works just as well. Once you are satisfied with the design, go over it with a black fine liner. Gently erase any pencil lines.
Fill in the middle banner with your special greeting. In this case, I chose “Happy Mother’s Day.” Using a paintbrush fill in your design with watercolors of your choice. Allow to dry completely.
Finally add your own personal message on the inside and address the envelope.
This template can be used for other occasions too, such as this sympathy card that I made using the exact same floral design. Feel free to customize it for birthdays, anniversaries, graduations or any other of life’s special moments.
